'HIKOI FOR HARMONY' was a beautiful collaborative event created and organised by Catherine Tamahere in June 2021 in response to the stories and community responses to the tragic events and histories of Pukekohe and the surrounding areas where segregation, racial discrimination formed a lasting legacy within the generational capacity for storytelling across many ethnicities and people. The Hikoi was intended in 2021 to begin the healing process, the beginning of the ability to reflect and share our authentic histories and personal stories within our communities, and to begin the process of moving forward with belief and hope. The event followed a hui with Professor Robert Bartholomew, whose book 'No maori allowed' detailed those historical stories within the community and archived their stories. Jay Pressnell joined the 'Hikoi for Harmony' march along the streets of Pukekohe alongside people of all races, gender and age.
